Add your own background colour or wallpaper!

The slave pixies responsible for Funky Homepage production have been put on steroids recently and have come up with a way to enable you to add your own background colour or wallpaper image to Funky Homepage, thus increasing it's funkiness rating by a further 2% (following a recent poll*). You can now add a background colour scheme (matching the main colour schemes and graded in a soothing psychedelic fashion) or you can add your own wallpaper image to Funky Homepage. You can also shift your wallpaper image around and align Funky Homepage to the left of your screen if you like, which is ideal if you want to use a right-aligned celebrity wallpaper - with Funky Homepage aligned to the left of your screen, there should be plenty of room for your favourite celebrity on the right of your screen (unless it's a really fat celebrity who takes up your entire monitor). If you have a low resolution monitor, you can also increase the size of your borders by choosing to use the narrow format version of Funky Homepage.

Choose your own background by clicking on the "Change Background" link at the top left of Funky Homepage and have a play around with it. There are also links to other sites that give lots of free funky wallpaper images from playboy models to nature backgrounds. Enjoy!

*poll was taken from a sample of one monkey and test results measured using our dilythium powered funky monkey meter (patent pending)

Funky Homepage Re-Designed!

Following inital feedback on the look and feel of Funky Homepage, we've made some changes that we hope you'll like. Here's a short list of some of those changes...

  • The header has been redesigned and the silver frame and beige background surrounding the search engine box have been completely removed. The search engine box is now surrounded by nothing but white space, which we hope makes the page look cleaner, crisper and less cluttered, reducing anxiety and improving your morale! I guess our Google search box on its own in the middle of all that white space is somewhat reminiscent of Google itself now. Hopefully this will appeal to Google users.
  • The Popular Links menu on the left hand side of the page has been redesigned. The silver frame has gone and so has the beige background. It has been replaced with a calming gradient of colour that matches your colour scheme of choice (default is royal blue). Changing the colour scheme will change the background colour here. This left hand links menu and its colour scheme now closely resembles the one on Yahoo's homepage, and this will hopefully make Funky Homepage more familiar to Yahoo users.
  • The "search the stores" box has also changed. The silver frame and beige background is gone and the design of the box has been incorporated into the main part of the page.
  • The footer has also been redesigned. Again, the silver frame and beige colour scheme has been dropped in favour of a simple bar that matches the colour scheme of your choice. As a result, the footer is now half the size it was before, which is nice. The slave pixie who designed these original boxes with their silver frames and beige backgrounds thought that beige was a nice homely colour that people would warm to. He was wrong. So last night we carved him into a hundred pieces and fed him to one of our hobgoblins. He won't make that mistake again.
  • The Google search box is now regional. This means that if you live in the UK, your search will be directed through Google.co.uk; if you live in the US, it will be directed through Google.com; if you live in Canada, it will be directed through Google.ca; and so on. Not every country is supported, but many are, and more will follow. Previously, all searches were directed through Google.com. What this means for you is more targeted search results for your region. If you'd like to change the Google search box that's used on your page for some reason, then you'll need to change your default country setting by clicking on the "Change Country" link in the newly designed footer bar at the bottom of the page.
  • The borders around the front page boxes now all take the colour of the colour scheme of your choice and the crappy 3D effect on these boxes when viewed in Internet Explorer has been removed. Previously these borders were all in black.

That's it! We hope you prefer the new design of Funky Homepage. Feel free to comment on it in this blog!

Funky Homepage is Launched!

Is it Yahoo? Is it Google? Is it some kind of funky voodoo-black-magic? No, it's FunkyHomepage.com! Today's the day that FunkyHomepage.com is officially launched. I can see it now being recorded in the annals of time, along with the first man on the moon, the fall of the Berlin wall, the first flight across the atlantic and the discovery of penicillin! Well, perhaps not! But at least it should provide some people with a much-needed relief from the bog-standard homepages of Google or Yahoo!

Funky Homepage is broadcast directly to your computer monitor from our underground fortress on Rigel-3, where our slave-pixies have been working hard to design the perfect personalised homepage (or start page) for the whole of mankind. And here it is, in all its funky glory! We won't turn this blog into a sales pitch for the site - we'll leave that up to our Why we so funky page (which contains subliminal messaging and hypnotic font styles to entice the easily suggestible). But we do want to highlight some of the reasons why we think Funky Homepage should be your homepage...

  • It has lots of fresh daily updated content, including
    • your choice of news feeds, organised by news category, automatically updated every hour,
    • your choice of 5 weather updates, updated hourly, so you can keep in touch with the weather in 5 different locations,
    • your choice of daily comic strips,
    • Today in History
    • daily Bushisms (lots of unbelievable quotes from Dubbya himself), as well as other daily quotes and jokes, and
    • regularly updated video feeds, featuring the latest and funniest from YouTube, Metacafe, Dailymotion and more

  • It has lots of useful tools, including
    • interactive calendars, including a Google Calendar viewer for up to 5 different calendars,
    • maps, currency converters, unit converters, messaging tools and lots of useful office tools for you to use,

  • It has its fair share of fun stuff to relieve your lunch-hour boredom, including
    • lots of games, playable directly from our site,
    • Lots of video feeds, and a Google YouTube video search box, enabling you to play videos directly from our site, as well as
    • Puzzles, jokes, comics and more.

  • It also has a geo-targeted store search box, enabling you to search the most popular high street stores in your country directly from your homepage, and also it has a (soon-to-be geo-targeted) Popular Sites menu down the left-hand-side, enabling you to access the best of the web in all sorts of categories, from music and movie downloads to photo sharing and printing, and lots more besides.

So if you think you might be funky enough, hit the button marked "Make This your Homepage" on our Start page and follow the simple on-screen instructions to make Funky Homepage your homepage.

Funky Homepage is currently in its beta stage, so all feedback and bug reports are welcome - please use the Feedback/Contact Us link at the bottom of each page to report any bugs and to get in touch with us. We already have an extensive To Do list for ways in which Funky Homepage can and will be improved in the future - check out this blog for any updates - all updates to Funky Homepage will be announced here - but for now, what you see is what you get. So stop reading this blog and start exploring all the feeds and gadgets on offer!
